In this blog post, we’ll address a few of the most common apple orchard FAQs so you can make the most of your visit and experience the magic of apple picking.

When is the best time to visit an apple orchard?

The ideal time to visit an apple orchard varies depending on your location and the specific apple varieties grown there. In general, apple orchards are busiest during the fall season, typically from late August to early November. Check with your local orchard to determine their opening dates and the availability of your desired apple varieties.

Robinette’s prime apple picking season is September and October, but we harvest apples starting in August through November!

How do I choose the right apples for picking?

When selecting apples for picking, look for firm, unblemished fruit with vibrant color. Different apple varieties ripen at different times, so ask the orchard staff or consult signs and guides provided to identify the varieties available. If you’re not sure what kind of apples you like most, ask for recommendations from the orchard staff! They can also advise which apples are best for cooking, eating raw, and more.

What should I wear and bring to an apple orchard?

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking on uneven terrain. Dressing in layers is advisable, as the weather can change throughout the day. It’s also a good idea to bring sunscreen, insect repellent, and a hat for added protection, especially on sunny days. Most orchards provide bags or baskets for apple picking.

Do orchards offer other fruits or products besides apples?

Many apple orchards primarily focus on apple production, but some orchards (including Robinette’s!) offer additional fruits such as cherries. Additionally, many orchards have farm stands or stores where you can purchase cider, apple-related products, baked goods, jams, and more.
