Experience

A Taste of Michigan

In response to consumer demand, the Robinette family opened the Apple Haus in 1973. The Apple Haus is home to the bakery, lunch counter and eating area, cider mill, home-grown fresh fruits and a variety of other tasty treats.

Every morning, our bakers fill the air with the wonderful aromas of breads, donuts, pastries and pies. Come enjoy a treat with a hot cup of coffee. At lunch, indulge in a soup or sandwich outside at one of our picnic tables or the play area. We also have a lunch box menu so you can order your lunch to go or for an office function. Don’t forget to bring home a pie for dessert or a loaf of one of our popular breads—or both!

In the apple room, you can see all the apple varieties we offer. Depending on the season, you can purchase sweet and tart cherries, peaches, apricots, apples, nectarines and pumpkins. If we happen to be making cider, you can watch how it is done. Every batch is different because each one features a different mix of apple varieties.

While you’re here, be sure to shop our Michigan-made products to take home or give as gifts. You can also visit our online shop for gift baskets, gift cards and more. No outside food or beverages allowed in the Apple Haus.

In September and October, please pre-order 4 dozen donuts or more by calling the bakery during open hours.

The Bakery

Fresh Donuts & More

Robinette’s bakery was started in 1972 with donuts, which are still our most popular item. Over the years we have added breads, pies and pastries to our offerings. Some of our most popular items are the cheese bread, apple bread and maple bacon donuts. We offer a special pumpkin spice donut from Labor Day through Thanksgiving, along with many other seasonal items. Our donut machine can make 200 dozen donuts per hour, and we make them all day long! We’re excited to offer gluten-free options, using Kind Crumbs ingredients.

Pies and rolls can be ordered for your special meals, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. If there is something special you would like, please call ahead to place your order. Bakery orders must be placed via telephone during open hours. No outside food or beverages allowed in the Apple Haus.

The Cider Mill

A Tasty Tradition

The world of growing apples had changed in the 1960s, and it became more difficult for a small farm like ours to survive. The business of selling our fruit at wholesale was no longer profitable, as evidenced by the fact that all our neighboring farms are now houses and shopping centers.

In 1971, Jim took the family on a tour of cider mills in southeast Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois before deciding to build one himself. Adding a cider press to our farm transformed us into a retail destination; since then, we have constantly added new products and services to our farm.

We make fresh cider at the cider mill starting the Tuesday after Labor Day through April or early May. We use a blend of apples, which changes as the season progresses, to achieve the perfect balance of sweet and tart. You can watch cider being made throughout the fall and about once a week in the winter. We treat our cider with a UV light process to prevent any bacterial contamination. We think this produces a better-tasting cider than a heat pasteurization process does. We never use any preservatives or additives, so our cider is 100% pure apple!

We freeze several extra batches of cider every November to sell in the summer. Our cider season never ends, so stop in for a cup, quart or gallon any time of year.

Our cider is also the starting point for our apple-based wines and hard ciders. The UV Light treatment removes almost all natural yeasts from cider, providing an excellent starting point for anyone wishing to make their own apple wine or hard cider.
