Fall is officially here, and there’s no better season to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors—especially if you’re lucky enough to live in Grand Rapids. If you need some inspiration on how to spend more time outdoors this fall, you’re in the right place. Even if you’re not in the Grand Rapids area, you should be able to do most everything on this list!

Outside Activities for Fall

Go Apple Picking

That’s right, fall is apple picking season. Find a local orchard and spend an afternoon picking the freshest apples around. If you don’t have an orchard nearby, check out some local farmers markets for fresh apples.

Go on a Bike Ride

Biking is a great way to explore your city, whether you’re cruising through downtown or on a designated biking trail in a park. Wherever you bike, you’re sure to enjoy the autumn breeze along the way.

Find a Corn Maze

Nothing says fall like a good ol’ corn maze. Grab some friends and see how quickly you can make it through the corn mazes in your area. Learn about Robinette’s 2022 corn maze design.

Plan a Picnic

Try to plan a picnic in early to mid fall, when the summer heat is cooling off but the winter temps haven’t yet arrived. Here are some of our favorite picnic spots in Grand Rapids, along with some tasty apple treats to pack!

Take a Hike

If you have a free Saturday afternoon, look up any nearby hiking trails. You might be surprised by what you find! (AllTrails is a great place to find local trails.) Whether you find a short morning hike or a strenuous all-day hike, you’ll thank yourself for getting some fresh air.

If you really can’t find any hikes nearby, simply enjoy a stroll in your neighborhood. Don’t underestimate the power of an evening or morning walk.

Watch a Sunset or Sunrise

Depending on whether you’re an early bird or not, try to watch a few sunsets or sunrises this fall! With the sun setting earlier and earlier, everyone should be able to enjoy a sunset. Step outside, take a minute to slow down, and really soak up the beauty surrounding you. T

Eat a Meal Outside

Enjoy breakfast or dinner outside before it gets too cold! Whether you simply sip your coffee on the porch or host a large family dinner on your deck, eat some meals outside this season.

Of course, we don’t think there’s a better place to enjoy the great outdoors than our very own orchard! Be sure to stop by sometime this season and say hello, pick some apples, and enjoy a fresh donut!
