June 3 is World Cider Day, so it’s time to raise a glass and celebrate this delicious holiday. From brushing up on your cider facts to visiting a local cider mill, there are many ways to pay homage to this annual tradition. Here are some ideas to try.

Visit a Cider Mill

You’re in luck: Robinette’s has a cider mill on site where you can watch our professionals make fresh cider. We offer this starting the Tuesday after Labor Day through April or early May. But if you catch us in the off-season, you can still pick up some of our tasty cider to bring home, as we freeze several extra batches of cider every November to sell in the summer.

We will walk you through the process as we treat our cider with a UV light process. This prevents any bacterial contamination and produces a better-tasting cider than the heat pasteurization process — with no preservatives or additives. The cider we make forms the starting point for all our apple-based wines and hard ciders.

  • One in every 10 farms throughout New England ran its own cider mill up to the time of the American Revolution.
  • The Temperance movement put a big damper on the cider business, with production falling by 76 percent during Prohibition.
