Apple Crisp Latte (or Macchiato)

Recipe from Lifestyle of a Foodie

This recipe has several components, so it takes a few minutes of prep, but it is well worth it! Plus, once you assemble the drizzle and syrup, you’ll have enough to use for several lattes. This delicious drink would pair perfectly with an apple cookie or two!

Ingredients

Apple Crisp Drizzle

  • 2 cups apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ⅛ teaspoon cinnamon

Apple Crisp Syrup

  • 1 large apple, sliced
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup apple juice
  • ¾ cup water
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon apple flavoring (optional)

Apple Crisp Latte (or Macchiato)

  • 2 tablespoons apple crisp syrup
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 espresso shot (or strong coffee)
  • 2 tablespoons apple crisp drizzle

Instructions

Make the Apple Syrup

  1. Place the sliced apple in a medium saucepan, and top with brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, apple juice, and water.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium heat then reduce to medium-low heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and add in the apple flavoring.
  3. Let the syrup cool, then strain.

Make the Apple Crisp Drizzle

  1. Place the apple juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil and reduce to simmer until the apple juice has reduced by about ¾ of the original amount. You should have about ⅓ – ½ cup of syrup left. (It might take 30 minutes.)
  3. Let the syrup cool down to room temperature. To speed up this process, pour the syrup into a shallow bowl to increase the cooling surface. It will thicken as it cools down and become almost like a caramel sauce.

Build Your Apple Crisp Drink

  1. To a cup of ice add in the milk and 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar apple syrup (use 3 tablespoons if you want it sweeter).
  2. Top it with the freshly brewed espresso, and drizzle with 2 tablespoons of apple crisp sauce.
