Today, we’re shining the fruit wine spotlight on blueberry, one of several fruit wines we have here at Robinette’s. We take great joy in experimenting with and creating new wine flavors, including blueberry, cranberry, and apple, as well as our two most popular wines: chocolate and Passionate Peach Spumante. Let’s explore what blueberry wine is and some great pairings to consider.

A Look at Blueberry Wine

Blueberry wine, a natural fruit wine made from fresh Michigan blueberries, is a semi-sweet wine featuring the intense character of plump locally-grown blueberries. You can enjoy this wine with virtually any fruit-based dish thanks to the sweet seasonal punch it offers. Or, you can just open a bottle and enjoy it by itself.

Blueberry wine is considered to be a dessert wine, usually consumed in the warmer months. However, it can be enjoyed all year round whenever a celebration is in order.

Pairings With Blueberry Wine

There are many dishes you can enjoy with blueberry wine, as they bring out the natural flavors of the fruit wine in complementary tastes. Blueberry wine pairs well with all desserts, but if you want to know the top one, it’s cheesecake. The sweetness of the blueberries offsets the creaminess of the cake very well.

Want a snack to go with your wine? Nuts are the perfect accompaniment, especially hazelnuts, almonds, and pecans.

If it’s cheese you’re craving, blueberry brings out the flavors of Swiss and Provolone cheese particularly well. Looking for a unique and flavorful breakfast? Add blueberry wine to your pancake batter instead of water. Or, when the weather’s warm, blend it with sherbet for a cool summer smoothie.

Benefits of Blueberries

Blueberries have many health benefits that can extend to your bottle of fruit wine. Blueberries contain lots of antioxidants that can reduce the effect of oxidative stress on your body, creating a shield around your cells to protect against damage.

Blueberries are also loaded with the following vitamins and minerals:

  • Vitamin C: 24%
  • Manganese: 25%
  • Dietary fiber: 14%
  • Vitamin K: 36%

Due to their high fiber content, blueberries can help manage cholesterol and blood sugar, while reducing blood pressure.

So go ahead and have a glass of blueberry wine and a handful of actual blueberries!
