Baked Apples With Rum and Cinnamon
Serve this delicious treat with rum raisin or vanilla ice cream, or even lemon sorbet. You can omit the rum if you choose.
You will need:
Glaze:
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup dark rum
- 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 6 whole cloves
Apples:
- 6 apples, washed and cored
- 6 cinnamon sticks
- 2 tbsp. butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 cup unsweetened apple cider
- Ice cream (optional)

- For the glaze: Combine the dark brown sugar, rum, nutmeg, salt, cinnamon, and cloves in a medium saucepan. Stir and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook, then reduce for four minutes.
- For the apples: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Arrange apples in a single layer in a baking dish. Place a cinnamon stick inside the hole left behind by coring the apple. Drizzle the glaze over the apples, topping each with pieces of butter. To the bottom of the dish, add the cider and put in the middle of the oven.
