Pumpkin Dutch Apple Pie

Most people go with either a pumpkin pie or an apple pie. But you can enjoy the best of both worlds with this pumpkin apple pie recipe.

You will need:

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch deep-dish pie shell
  • 2 cups thinly sliced green apples
  • 1 cup plus 1 tbsp. sugar, divided
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tsp. flour, divided
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon, divided
  • 1 ½ cups canned pumpkin
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tbsp. butter, melted
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 3 tbsp. butter

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 375° F.
  • Combine apples, 1/4 cup sugar, 2 tsp. flour, lemon juice, and 1/4 tsp. cinnamon in bowl; pour into pie shell.
  • Combine pumpkin, milk, eggs, 1/2 cup sugar, melted butter, 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in bowl, then pour this over apple mixture.
  • Bake for 30 minutes.
  • Combine 1/2 cup flour, nuts and 5 tablespoons sugar in bowl.
  • Cut in 3 tablespoons butter until mixtures looks like coarse crumbs.
  • Remove pie from oven, then sprinkle with crumble topping.
  • Place back in oven and bake for 20 minutes.
  • Cool on wire rack.

Caramel Apple Pumpkin Pie

Combine the sweet and smooth taste of caramel with the fresh flavors of apple and pumpkin – all together on a flaky, rich crust.

You will need:

Pie crust

Caramelized Apple Layer

  • 5 apples, cubed in 1/2-inch pieces
  • 3 tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 2-4 tbsp. water
  • Pinch of kosher salt

Pumpkin Layer

  • 1 (15 oz.) can pumpkin puree (or equal amount, roasted)
  • Pinch kosher salt
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. allspice
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Bake the crust for 20 minutes.
  • Heat the apples, butter, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon in a skillet until apples have become tender.
  • Combine the cornstarch and water in a small bowl.
  • Stir over medium heat until juices thicken.
  • Whisk the pumpkin, brown sugar, salt, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, all-spice, eggs, vanilla, and sour cream.
  • Reduce the heat of the oven to 325°F.
  • Place the apples in the pie shell, then pour the pumpkin over the apples.
  • Bake for one hour.
  • Cool on a rack.
  • Serve chilled or at room temperature.
