They make for a great salad apple, but are also tasty as kabobs and garnishes, and in fruit plates because they do not turn brown quickly like other apples when cut. All About Cortland Apples

These medium to large varietals feature a flattened, round or conical appearance. With a skin that is semi-thin, taut, and smooth, Cortlands have a faint sheen that can get greasy with age. With a yellow-green base, Cortlands boast bright red blushing and striping, possibly with some green specks and russeting.

Its flesh is white, soft, and fine-grained, with a crisp consistency when freshly harvested. As it ages, the flesh becomes softer with extended storage. A bit sweeter than their parent, the McIntosh parent, Cortlands are well balanced with a subtle tartness, backed by a sweet, tangy taste.
