Let’s explore those pairings today. And remember, get your fruit wine in our winery, where we sell our homemade apple fruit wine and other locally-sourced wines and hard ciders.

Sweet Wines and Sweet Desserts Go Hand in Hand

The traditional use for fruit wines is to pair them with desserts. Keep in mind, the wine should be sweeter than the dessert you are pairing it with or else the wine’s sweetness will get lost and all you’ll detect are tart elements.

Desserts featuring fruit pair best with the type of fruit wine you have. Other sweet foods that pair well with fruit wine include:

  • Belgian waffles topped with fruit compote
  • Any protein entree topped with fruit chutney
  • Fruit-based desserts
  • Fruit salad

In general, peach and blueberry wines in particular go well with any fruit-based dessert.

Poultry and Fish: A Lighter Combo

For lighter dishes involving chicken or fish, you don’t want a heavy fruit wine that will overpower the light flavors of the meal. You can use fruit wine as a drink or even as a sauce for your baked or grilled seasoned poultry or any fish entrée. Peach or raspberry wines pair particularly well with light fish or shellfish dishes. Blueberry and cranberry are great for fatty fish dishes such as salmon or cod.

Pork and Beef Dishes: A Heavier Approach

Grilled or baked beef and pork dishes demand a heavier, more substantial sweet wine for a more robust flavor component. Apple, cherry, or blackberry wines can be mixed into barbecue sauces and then be used to baste pork or beef during the grilling process. Apple wine is traditionally a good fruit wine to pair with pork, but raspberry and blueberry wines work equally as well.

Spicing Things Up

Sweet wines go well with spicy dishes, bringing out flavors such as green apple, white peach, and lime. These are ideal for spicy Asian dishes, cheddar, gouda, salty dishes, cured meat, and desserts.
